Agreements on EFESC operations and praparatory meeting in Scotland, 22-23 Sept.2011

The Leonardo da Vinci project which supports the development of the European Chainsaw Certificate and the setup of the European Forestry and Environmental Skills Council will be completed by the end of September 2011. To conclude the project with mutually agreed and approved results, and to ensure that the ECC and the EFESC can be implemented successfully, a management meeting of the project partners was held on 24-25th August in London.

Following our mutual development work and an extensive debate about the organisational structure of the EFESC and the implementation of ECC this meeting resulted in a full agreement about the following:
• The legal statutes & structure of EFESC is based on and will be further developed according to the statutes of the registered legal entity INPO under Belgium law.
• The decisions taken in Ossiach on 6 June 2011 will soon be implemented.
• Executive Board and elected Committee Members will have the full support of the LdV project partnership.
• To ensure an effective transfer of the project results the EFESC Board has agreed that it shall be supported by the LdV project partners as co-opted non-voting members to the Executive Board.
• Since it is expected that the tasks and workload of EFESC soon will increase, the project partnership will propose to expand the size of the Executive Body at the next EFESC General Assembly.
• Operations will be based on the prescriptions of the EFESC Handbook, which will be further elaborated by the Accreditation Committee.
• Intellectual property and copy rights of the LdV Project results will be transferred to the legal entity EFESC after the end of the project duration.

To ensure an effective continuation of the development work by the project deadline, the next project management meeting in Scotland will be held as a joint Board, Standards and Accreditation Committee meeting, held on 22-23rd September, to coincide with the ECC- Assessor Verification event. An event registration form has been circulated to potential ECC Assessors. Please contact us if you want to join this meeting for more information. During this meeting the next General Assembly will be planned.

We look forward to further positive developments for EFESC & the ECC certification in the future.

On behalf of the EFESC team,
Billy Robb-EFESC/ECC Leonardo Project Manager
Tom Embo-EFESC Chairman

Ossiach: members of EFESC vote in 1st General Assembly

In the last newsletter you could read that following the commitments made in Brno, the legal structure of EFESC was defined on Monday May 18 2011; since EFESC is operating as an INPA (International Nonprofit Association) under Belgian law.
On June 6th, during a side event at the 3td international conference of forestry training centers in Ossiach we held our 1st General Assembly of EFESC. The first step was the acceptance of new members in the addition of the founding members registered in the statutes. All EFESC-members were then invited to vote upon some critical items like adoption of the statutes and the handbook, the membership and acceptance of nominations for the different committees and secretariat. You can read the report and download the press release at the download page.

ECC and EFESC at the 3rd International Conference of Forestry Training Centres

ECC and EFESC have now reached the stage that the organisation to manage and maintain Competence Standards - EFESC – will be have its first official General Assembly.

The meeting will be held as a side event to the 3rd International Training Centres Conference in Ossiach, Austria which will be held from 6 to 8 June 2011.(registration and information at www.eduforest.eu)

How to tackle the major challenges in forestry training in European countries within the next 10 years? This is the main question to be answered in Ossiach.
The three must attend events are:
 The launch of the pan-European network of forestry training centres.
 The official launch of the membership drive to the European Forestry and Environmental Skills Council (EFESC) which will be the organisation to manage and maintain skills and competence certificates for forestry.
 The accreditation of training centres for delivering European certifications of competences recognized by the forestry sector.

Evidently EFESC members are most welcome to attend this conference and take part in the discussions, as a representative of your country you can make a difference!

9th International meeting: the outcome

On 16-17th March 2011 we held our 9th international meeting on the creation of the ECCertificate at the Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. Again a very diversified group from all over Europe gathered and we could welcome some new interested partners from Poland this time. Thanks to everybody for taking the time and effort to join us every time and contributing in all the discussions, it's only thanks to all of you that we are now looking at a nearly finished brand new European Chansaw Certificate under the umbrella of the new EFESC organisation, which will hopefully house also other products in the future.

Due to some last minute discussions and altered opinions the agenda underwent some changes. Read the minutes of the meeting and download the attachments .
